Tyrone Willingham supposedly needs to win this season to stay as the coach of the Huskies, but the schedule isn't doing him any favors.

For the second season in a row, the Huskies play one of the country's
hardest schedules. Washington coach Tyrone Willingham can't afford
another nonwinning season after a 4-9 mark in 2007, but the Huskies
probably have a very difficult time getting to .500 playing a
murderer's row of opponents.
Washington opens the season with
a Pac-10 road game at Oregon on Aug. 30, then plays home games against
BCS hopeful BYU and defending Big 12 champion Oklahoma. Anything other
than a 0-3 record to start the season would be an achievement. An Oct.
25 home game against Notre Dame -- Willingham's former employer --
rounds out the nonconference schedule.

The way that Willingham has turned things around from the mess (with regards to discipline) that Rick Neuheisel left and Keith Gilbertson had to inherit, I'd be trying to find ways to get him to stay not to leave. I'm not an alumni, but UW should be known for being a good school all around not for the embarassment that their football team was becoming.

the "winner" of the worst-team sweepstakes has the consolation of
being first in line for San Diego State phenom Stephen Strasburg. The
only collegiate player on the U.S. Olympic team, the right-hander
struck out 23 in a game against Utah this year and is the consensus No.
1 overall pick.

"It's a good year to pick No. 1," said John Manuel, editor of
Baseball America. "I love Strasburg, but that's hardly original. He
compares favorably to Mark Prior at a similar stage of his career. ...
He's an elite, elite guy and could move very quickly."

I sincerely believe that playing to tank only leads to bad things,
so hopefully the Mariners can spend the last couple of months
developing their younger players and they also might end up with
Strasburg.

Whom will of course be traded away for Victor (not Carlos) Zambrano in a couple of years.
Set up a FON Wifi Router at home the other day to increase my mobile connectivity options. I went over to Burger Mania today to see what kind of range the spot had. My phone did not pick up the signal from the router, but testing with this Chocalate Souffle went well.

From the Economist:

"IT WOULD only take half an hour for the French boats and French
helicopters to reach the disaster area." Those were the wistful words
uttered by Bernard Kouchner, France's foreign minister, as his
country's diplomats at the United Nations vainly argued that aid might
have to be "imposed" on Myanmar if the military regime refused to
co-operate.

Even as he spoke, diplomats from China, Vietnam, South Africa and
Russia were mocking his idea that the "responsibility to protect" (a
new concept in global affairs, implying that saving human lives might
in some extreme circumstances override sovereignty) could be invoked in
the case of Myanmar's cyclone. China noted acidly that the idea had not
been cited in 2003 when France suffered a deadly heatwave.

So, the French arguement is that the government of Myanmar does not have the ability to sufficiently protect their citizens AND since the government is not popular or democratic, so forced intervention should be allowed. Seems pretty darn dangerous. . . though with the Chinese/Russian veto no one's forcing themselves into Myanmar.

I'm not suggesting that this should have been done, but President G. W. Bush's government was not popular at the time that Hurricane Katrina hit and they were doing a piss poor job in disaster relief. Seems to be pretty similar circumstances (though the US President was elected democratically. . .right?).
