Toxic spill enters water supply

A toxic spill has poisoned the water supply of the Chinese city of Harbin, a city with a population of 3.8 million.

A slick of river-borne toxins from a chemical plant explosion flowed into a major Chinese city Thursday as the government dug wells after shutting down its water system to protect residents from the pollution.

The 80-kilometer-long (50-mile-long) patch of water carrying toxic benzene began entering Harbin, a city of 3.8 million people in China's northeast, at about 3 a.m. (1900 GMT Wednesday), the government said. It was expected to take 40 hours to pass.

Out of all the articles out there today, I decided to grab this one. It just seems like an impossible thing to deal with. That and the fact that I wonder where the clean water in China comes from. I didn't see one lake or river in China that I would want to drink the water from.
