A county in Virgina was selling 1000 of their surplus iBooks for 50 dollars to county residents , a stampede started when the doors to the sale were opened.
A rush to purchase $50 used laptops turned into a violent stampede Tuesday, with people getting thrown to the pavement, beaten with a folding chair and nearly driven over. One woman went so far to wet herself rather than surrender her place in line.
Quite unfortunate that the people from back home wouldn't even think of stampeding and would just stand in line in docile surrender. Actually in Japan, they probably would have passed out coupons to the first 1000 people in line that they could pass along with 50 USD to get the iBooks.
On a separate note, I would have kicked, screamed, grabbed, thrown and yes, wet myself to get one of those 50 USD iBooks.
Give me my iBOOK!
wellit was a 4 year old iBook, so it was probably border line OSX, so not completely worthless, but. . .too fight so hard to get something like this, but what will they do with the laptops once they bring them home?
i lovethe comment from the kid..."BAM!" Homey don't play that. But let's be real. These are likely G3s that have been beat to hell by high schoolers. Sad thing is it seems like really needy folks who were trying to get a machine...kind of speaks to that very real digital divide.
in japan?Well this kinda thing happend all the time in Japan.
At least I used to see it on TV a couple times. Sales season in the department store, house wifes (obachan) would rush in to grab the undies, neckties and stuff like that. My favorite part is when the door opens. Man, those housewives might look a bit old and fat but I tell you, they can RUN. Then the chaos begins. people being pushed, hairs pulled, screams in the air, camera gets nocked away and a rough pan to a hand with nail biting in... pretty exciting stuff. Like watching a wild life documentary. Wonder if they still do that.
Wonder if they have footage of Virginia.
That is absolutely insane. That is absolutely insane. What the F is wrong with people? And if you've already wet yourself, do you then draw the line at soiling yourself, or is it pretty much all fair game after the seal is broken?
VideoYeah, here is video footage, haven't looked at it yet, because I don't feel up to installing REAL video on a work machine.
You're right, there are stampedes at bargain sales at supermarkets and department stores in Japan, but, I'm not sure if I've heard of people peeing their pants. . .which is key for me.
[...] In contrast with previous unhappy iBook news, here is some happy iBook news. . .or should I say fun iBook news. It really isn’t news is it? More like an event. . .all about setting up three thousand iBooks in three days. [...]
