Man, I was just thinking about having a salad this afternoon. Bummer. But if you want to see how one more environmental article will be written off look no further than what a skeptic would call an alarmist article with no backbone, read on. For all the text surrounding the presence of rocket fuel in lettuce, this sentence alone, was the only one to speak of an effect of the substance...
Perchlorate, which impairs the thyroid’s ability to take up iodide and produce hormones critical to proper fetal and infant brain development, has contaminated almost 300 drinking water sources and farm wells in California and an unknown number of sources in at least fifteen other states.
errrryeah, I've heard about this, and it ain't good. we have a local supply of greens now thru November, but I guess I need to pay attention to my lettuce purchases from Dec. thru April. Apparently even the organic supplies can get tainted by this crap.
irrganicI walked away from this article reaffirming one thing. There is no such thing as organic, if we're to define it as something that does not contain any pesticides or other synthesized man-made material, or an over abundance of natural material. That is because all the water we have in the world is here, now. We don't get any more of any significance from Space. The water is not getting any cleaner.
